COVID-19 Update - 2021 Summer Camp

Dear North Salem Day Camp families,

We are happy to be able to bring North Salem Day Camp back to Mt. Lakes Park this summer! We are looking forward to seeing everyone we missed in 2020 and reconnecting with the campers that attended our modified programs at JB Park in 2020.

North Salem Day Camp won’t look the same as it did pre-COVID, but we are excited to get back! There are still many CDC and New York State DOH restrictions in place to help us reduce the spread of COVID-19. We are hoping some of these restrictions will loosen once the summer gets here, but we are prepared to meet today’s guidelines and restrictions. We will make further modifications, if needed, to ensure we are adhering to all guidelines – the safety of our camp families is our top priority! All individuals will be required to wear a face mask.

Program Modifications

We have made many modifications to the program to ensure the safety of every member of our camp family. A few of the changes include:

  • Session Lengths - We will need to limit the number of campers we register. We feel it is crucial during this pandemic that every camper has the opportunity to attend camp this summer, even if only for a couple weeks. To create the most opportunities, we are implementing two-week sessions for the 2021 season. Our pre-COVID full, five-week session will not be available this year. We will offer three two-week sessions only.

  • Camper Age – Campers must be at least four years old by the first day of their session and fully potty-trained in order to attend camp

  • Registration

    • First come, first served. To start, everyone will have the opportunity to register for one session only, regardless of residency. After a few days, any remaining spots will open to any campers looking for a second or third session. A waitlist will be available for all sessions in case restrictions allow us to register more campers.

    • New this year – we will be using the Community Pass system for registration (not as we have in the past - a few weeks after registration, you will receive an email with a link to CampDoc to complete your child’s health profile). Credit Cards and e-checks will be accepted online with an additional convenience fee. As always, cash and checks will also be accepted at our office with no additional fee. You can preview the registration system at

  • Busing & Transportation

    • Busing will be mandatory for all campers, CIT, and most staff this summer. We need to limit the amount of visitors, parents, and other non-campers on our campgrounds.

    • The bus will leave from one central location within North Salem only. Bus stop location to be announced. No busing will be available outside North Salem for the 2021 camp season.

    • All individuals will ride the bus with their pods and will be spaced out as required.

  • Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program

    • The program for 8th, 9th, and 10th graders under 15 years old will also be offered as three separate two-week sessions. Same registration guidelines as listed above.

    • CIT Candidates will still need to complete an application to train as a CIT so we can determine their best fit within the program.

    • This summer will include very limited hands-on experience as junior counselors but will focus more heavily on training, leadership, and teamwork to prepare for future summers. Extra time to socialize with other CITs and participate in typical camp activities (like archery, swimming, crafts, and boating) will be included. We think it is important for this age group to be with their classmates after a long, socially distant year.

    • More information on CIT Program specifics still to come.

  • Grouping – Campers and CITs will be grouped in “pods” of no more than 15 campers from their grade. We cannot guarantee any friend requests made this summer. Pods will have the same staff members for the duration of their session. Current guidelines do not allow for interaction between pods. Pods will be scheduled for camp activities in a way that will facilitate this.

  • Supplies & Equipment – Each “pod” will have their own set of supplies (art, sports, etc.) to use exclusively.

  • Staffing – Masks will be worn by all staff at all times. We will be hiring a limited number of staff this year. There will be a very limited amount of 15 year old junior counselor positions available. All staff MUST be available for the entire camp season - from June 25th through August 6th. Staff Applications open on April 1st at 9am.
